Lesson Task – Question 3 (Part 1)

You are given a teaspoon as an object. Now apply each one of the SCAMPER techniques to it and give a brief explanation of what new product comes of this and how it can be marketed.

This lesson task was a bit challenging and you really got to use your imagination to figure out a new twist to the teaspoon using the SCAMPER method. So, the brainstorming begins and this is what I could think of using the SCAMPER method for the teaspoon.

Substitute something

I wanted my teaspoon to be environment friendly and have a fun design. So I chose to go with a teaspoon in Bamboo material. Bamboo is a fantastic material that you can reuse over and over again. It is about as sustainable and plant-friendly as you can get.

Combine it with something else

For a fun design and something practical I wanted it to have a rubber animal/figure on the handle that you could take of to use as a rubber or to play with.

Adapt something to it

Perfect for the lunchbox for school children. A teaspoon to eat and drink with and the rubber animal/figure could be used for when writing your schoolwork and accidents happen that need to be erased by the convenient and cool rubber toy on your spoon.

Modify or Magnify it

I decided to add a built in straw in my teaspoon. So you could use it for eating and drinking.

Put to other uses

Take of the animal/figure an play with it. Collect them all. Buy extra figures to collect and play with and switch faces for the teaspoon handle.

Eliminate something

Here I have eliminated the steel material and chosen bamboo instead. First for environmental reasons and for it’s ability to not conduct the heat from hot drinks which may burn your mouth. Kids safe.

Reverse or Rearrange it

From a dull teaspoon to a fun looking, environment friendly teaspoon that you can use for eating, drinking, rubber and playing with.

Here are my first drafts and design for “The Kiddo teaspoon”.

It’s always a bit messy to start with and then I draw a mood board.

Marketing

I would market “The Kiddo teaspoon” for children in school.

Make a cool commercial with kids using the rubber for erasing in his/her textbook. The clock ringing for lunch. Kids taking out the spoons for their lunchbreak where they eat, drink and play with the figures. Showing all types of figures and that we also sell figures separately so you can collect them all and switch faces for your teaspoon. To end it all with the message. Bamboo teaspoon, environment friendly and prevents children from burning their mouth. 5 + Chocking hazard.

The end…
