Lesson Task – Sketching Techniques

You are briefed to do an illustration for fruit juice packaging (orange and banana flavor). The name of the product is: Loose Juice.

Draw at least 15 scamps (they can be A6 size each) of what the label will look like. Remember to include the fruit, the name of the flavor and the name of the product.

Choose one of your sketches and draw the label, using Adobe Illustrator. The artwork can be A6 (landscape or portrait).

This lesson task we were supposed to sketch/draw 15 different A6 sketches for a juice brand named Loose Juice. Then pick one to Illustrate in Adobe Illustrator. I kind of feared this Lesson task because of my drawing skills and non existing experience working in the Adobe Illustrator program. But hey I also wrote my report in InDesign for the latest course assignment and it didn’t look to bad. Took a lot of hours but I did it and learned a lot. And that’s what we are here for of course.

I started with my sketches and I really enjoyed the process. I am pretty surprised of how good some of them actually turned out. So maybe I don’t completely suck at drawing after all? I admit I had to google how to draw a banana and Orange just to get a hang of it and then put my own touch to it. The ideas just came flooding.

Here are 15 of my sketches for Loose Juice

I decided to go with the Loose Juice text with the two oranges as the letter O and the banana J. I spent some hours watching learning video’s for Adobe Illustrator and then I got to work.

It was a bit challenging at first but here the same as in InDesign I think you just need to spend a lot of time trying and failing and learning to get the hang of it. I actually did two of the logos for the learning experience and then I decided which to publish at my blog. So her it is my finished label for Loose Juice (A6 Size):

Taada! Hope you like it.
